Traditional napkins for formal dinners

You can incorporate traditional napkins for formal dinners. There is nothing to worry about the décor or spoiling the table setting. Traditional napkins, whether they are made of plain white cotton or are a simple silk variety, can add a new dimension to your formal dinner table.

Loosely defined, traditional napkins are made from cotton, satin or silk and do not contain extensive embroidery or embellishments. They are available in a single or multiple colour formats. Some of these napkins contain light embroidery or border work while others do not have any adornment.

Formal napkins will come in handy if you do not have any expensive napkins or if you are following an elegant theme for the evening. There should not be a problem as long as you have carefully chosen the colour schemes and tableware for the event.

The colour of table ware will help you in finding matching napkins. If you are using plain fine china, try white cotton napkins. They will enhance the décor of your table, giving it an old world charm.

Before you start using the napkins, it is important to devise a seating plan for the dinner. Keep the number of guests in mind and if there will be senior citizens or children among the audience. You can arrange tables according with adding spare napkins where you want these guests to sit.  Adding terrycloth napkins is a good idea for children as they can alternate as bibs.

Cleaning will be easier with cotton napkins. Sorting of napkins based on the level of stains can help you in deciding the washing time required and amount of detergent used. Perhaps the best aspect of using traditional cotton napkins is that they are durable and can last for years if properly cleaned and ironed. You can also save money by buying traditional napkins in bulk.
