Models presented the creation by the Pakistani designers Sana Safinaz, Tapu Javeri, Abdul Samad, Deepak Perwani, Fareeha Jamshed and Honey Waqar in April 2012. Fashion week was celebrated in a secured five star hotel in Karachi. Fashion fans with front row seats watched the catwalks who paid hefty money to be in the front row to watch from heavily embroidered bridal gowns to street wear.
Maheen Khan, a veteran designer introduced to the crowd on the first night as “Coco Chanel of the East”. Maheen mentioned that well known brands like Monsoon, Next and Timberland have all recently arrived in Karachi where as Debenhams is on the way. This tells that demand of the Pakistani fashion is rising up because a middle class has begun to emerge.
Nomi Ansari launched his bridal collection at this venue. He is well admired for his highly inventive colour combinations and detailed craftsmanship with intricate embellishments has become his signature style. He presented his superb and beautiful bridal and groom collection. Nomi Ansari bridal collection also included beautiful long shirts and kameez along with stylish frocks. In mens collection there were sherwanis and some kurtas of bright colors.
Most designers expressed their views that Pakistani fashion is starting to break out from traditional markets of bridal wear and outfits bought by a small rich minority. Deepak Perwani, a seasoned designer stated that “People need to look at a different Pakistan; we’re sick and tired of the same old bullshit news about bombs and terrorists.”
