Cotton blankets are no longer considered a drab item that was mostly used as a last resort. They have gained a widespread attention from commercial and home users alike. Cotton blankets offer significant warmth while also add a new dimension to the décor of a room. The blankets are available in many construction types with some having multiple sheets sewn together and others having a filling material. You can choose the best cotton blanket for your home after considering some important things.

If your home has heating system then cotton blankets will be a prefect addition. Cotton blankets can help you in getting the extra warmth when the heating system slows down. You can use multiple cotton blankets in case there is no heating system in place. This is the reason why most hospitals use blankets made from cotton or variants. It will be a better idea to use blankets that contain some type of filling material. This will give you the necessary warmth to fight the onslaught of the biting cold.

Cotton blankets can be worn in all seasons. A blanket made from a double sheet of cotton will be enough to provide you with cover during summers. It is a wise idea to place a cotton blanket in your bedroom as well as in your children and guest rooms. A couple of cotton blankets will also be good in your living room especially if you like to sleep around after watching a film on the couch.

Cotton blankets are easier to wash and dry. You can use a machine washer for the purpose or wash them by hand. The only caution is to look at the sewing patterns and additional materials such as embroidery. Canaria Textiles is one of the manufacturers in who supply hotels and hospital blankets world wide and complying with manufacturer’s instructions will help in prolonging the life of your cotton blankets.

Acrylic blankets are gaining popularity with each passing day because they are economical, easy to wash and quick dry item. Although a relatively new entrant, they have gained a strong foothold given their plush texture and greater warmth. Acrylic is a synthetic fibre and is thus free of the natural constraints of other fabrics such as cotton and silk. It is produced in a number of ways to emulate the qualities of other fabrics. Acrylic used in blankets offers the same warmth and comfort as wool. It, however, is much lighter than wool and has a softer texture. This makes for an ideal blanket material.

Acrylic blankets come in many shapes, colours and designs. This makes it easier for you to pick a design that best suits your needs. A lighter shade with minimal design features will look good on all types of bedroom décor. Before buying an embroidered blanket, you will need a careful evaluation of the overall bedroom décor. Irrespective of the design and colour, acrylic blankets will offer the same warmth and comfort. You can use them as your regular blanket. They are equally good for use as children’s blankets.

Acrylic blankets come with many benefits. They are light-weight and softer and thus are easier to wash and dry. You can wash them in your regular washing machine as it will not affect the fabric. You can also wash them by hand in lukewarm water. It is, however, not recommended to dry them in a regular dryer especially if you have turned on the heavy mode. This can destroy the fabric. It is better to dry them in the open or use a lighter mode of machine drying. Acrylic blankets can last for years if proper washing and drying care is taken. This will enable you to continue enjoying the cosy and warm protection of acrylic blankets against the chilling weather.

Outdoor blankets give you the freedom to lounge in gardens and parks on a cold day. They are lighter than their bedroom counterparts and can also be used as a comfy surface to lie on. Outdoor blankets are made of a large variety of fabrics. Choosing the right construction can help you in ensuring durability and easy cleaning.

Construction

Traditional outdoor blankets are made of wool and variants. Newer types, however, are made of cotton, fleece, polyester and synthetic fibres. Construction varies depending on the purpose of use. Conventional woollen carpets are good for picnics or spending lazy afternoons in a park. They do not provide protection against rain as water can easily seep through them. They are warm enough to provide greater warmth than synthetic fibres and this tip the balance in their favour.

Terrycloth blankets are another popular variety that can keep you warm on a cold day. They also provide better cover against the elements if you use them as spreads. Camping blankets are now made of special fibres that are water resistant and have greater durability. Some of them are flexible enough to fit in a small duffel bag thus making transportation easier.

Design

Outdoor blankets did not have much design variation earlier. These days, you can find them with intricate embroidery, multi-colour patterns, digital images and embellishments. You can use this to buy a blanket that best suits your needs and matches with your style quotient.

Maintenance

Outdoor blankets require special maintenance. You should wash woollen blankets in lukewarm water or as per the manufacturer instructions. Synthetic fibres require special attention as they are made of different materials and can be destroyed in case of improper washing. Dry these blankets in open air instead of a dryer.

You can use outdoor blankets in many locations. You can even incorporate them into your home décor. They will look great as a floor rug.

Duvets, which literally mean “down” from their Norse origin, are a mix between bedsheets and quilts. Like quilts, they come with fillings that can be feather or synthetic material. Unlike quilts, they can be used as bedsheets and are now available in many designs and layouts. Perhaps the best thing about duvets is that they are warm and cosy enough to provide comfort to the entire family.

Duvets in Sets

Try buying duvets in bulk if you want to save money. A single duvet will cost you more but will not provide the comfort you had been looking for. It will only be good for two to three people while others have to make do with the existing quilts and sheets. Duvets are available in a pack of six and more comprising of duvets, covers, pillows and accessories. You can find significant discounts on duvets if you visit clearance sales or utilize Internet offers.

Things to Look For

While buying duvets, try to look for the type of filling used and the fabric used in ticking. Down and feather remain the most popular filling in duvets followed by synthetic fibres. The latter is better for those who have allergies. Ticking is the outer shell of the duvet and is made of a number of materials. Try to buy duvets with cotton ticking with a thread count over 200. This will keep the filling in place while also be gentle to your skin.

Another thing to look for is the type of construction used in duvets. Baffle box construction is one in which the duvet is divided into uniform squares with each tightly packed to keep the filling in place. Sewn through box construction simply joins the ends together and the filling can move freely. It can result in a lumpy duvet that does not have a uniformity of filling.

Large duvets can provide your family with a perfect snuggling space. You can also spread them on floor as they will offer a great playing field to your children.

Bedroom is the place that offers the ultimate comfort. This is where you go after a long and tiring day at work. You will suffer if the place is not comfortable enough. There can be many factors contributing to an unpleasant bedroom setting including poor selection of bedding. You can overcome this problem by making a careful selection of bedding. In bedding, it is the type of fabric that plays a key role in bringing comfort. Cotton sheets and pillows are universally renowned for their soft texture that helps in bringing in sleep. Silk is another preferred fabric. Choosing a fabric that offers maximum comfort and enhances bedroom décor can be difficult. Unless you keep certain things in mind.

Colour

It is better to choose a fabric that has a soothing colour scheme. Loud and garish colours can make sleeping difficult. Sheets with overdone embroidery and embellishments look good for special occasions but can’t offer you a good night sleep.

Texture

Sheets that have a rough feeling to them can hamper your efforts of getting a sleep. Similarly, poor selection of pillow covers and quilts can upend whatever plans you had for the night. Look for fabrics that have a smooth texture. You can do that by examining the thread count. It is the number of threads woven together in a square inch of cotton or other textiles. A fabric with a thread count of 400 will offer you a soft texture and plush design that is ideal for sleeping.

Pillow Filling

Feathers make for the plushiest head rest. You can replace them with soft fillings in case of an allergic reaction to feathers. Never fill your pillows with hard foam as it may cause headache instead of lulling you to sleep.

It is easier to make a comfy bed as long as you are eager to do a little research and find the best fabrics. This will bring you comfort and may improve your sleeping habits, so you got a comfy bed.

Creating the patchwork cover for your comforter is not so difficult. One can use new or recycled fabrics for the patchwork design, but a consistent fabric thickness should be maintained by using cotton fabrics only. Patchwork cushions, quilts and pillow cases are more suited in a county-styled bedroom.

How to sew Cotton Patchwork Textile

To start with, you would need a measuring standard so that all patches are of same size. Measure and cut out a 3 square inch from the cardboard to use as a patchwork square template. You can go for slightly bigger square for larger size products. Next, pin two squares together along one edge. Sew either using handle needle and thread or a sewing machine. Add a third square to extend patchwork.

The sewing strategy should be to make long rectangles by the same method. The pin and sew the rectangles together along the long edges to make the patchwork square. Next cut the quilt batting to the exact size of the patchwork square. Layer the batting and patchwork square on a flat surface and insert a safety pin in the centre of each square to secure the both layers. Then hand sews through the seam lines connecting the patchwork squares to quilt the patchwork.

Cotton patch work is not difficult but time consuming or it can be taken as a hobby. Her I have given brief instructions how to do it but you can find several books in the market which give detailed instructions on this craft. You can buy DVDs showing step by step instructions for patchwork on your computer or TV to follow.

Giant printed sheets were very common back in the 60′s and 70s but many still have the taste for it. Now, that trend is evolving again to bigger and bigger patterns and there are many manufacturers catering this need. Giant, over-scaled printed patterns are the latest trend for bedding. Canaria is one of the manufacturers who offer bed sheets which combine luxury, comfort and fineness of cotton with the easy care qualities. When picking up bedding items, the thread count is an important factor. It is understood that the higher the thread count the better the quality and higher than 200 thread count is classed as luxury bedding.

There are plenty of suppliers where floral printed bed sheets are available in vibrant colours and have coloured floral print on it. At the same time a designer bed sheet set creates long lasting impression to any home decor. The luxury bedding items are made of high grade fabrics and are easy to maintain because they are made of fine cotton and manufactured from the long staple fibres which allow the bedding to be soft and durable.

Shown in the picture above is giant pattern bedding and note that it has not make decorating the rest of the room challenging. Above example can be followed to have your bedroom decor set. If you buy a duvet cover with a bright large print, it provides a great focal point in the room. The only problem is that sometimes it may feel too dramatic, and too noticeable.

Dyed and printed woven sheets, duvet covers, flat sheets and comforters all can bring new look in your bedroom and you can do decoration around it. If you love brilliant colours, you would find it awesome, so go for some bright colours and coordinate them perfectly with your bedroom.

Comfort for the user is the primary objective in luxury bedding, next comes the patterns and on top of that if its beautiful floral print it would invite you to sit in the bedroom longer. In the past few years, printed flowery bed sheets have returned to vogue and delicate printed patterned sheets are all the rage at various retailers all over the world. This is an interesting trend, and many love the look of these large-scale prints.

As the winter is here, you may be wondering how to have a warm and cosy bed ready at night. You don’t need to spend whole lot to bring a feeling of comfort to your bedroom. Following are some inexpensive decorating tips that can easily help in adding warmth. It does matter where bed located in the room is but you can find ways to turn your bedroom in a cosy place.

First of all try not to have the head board under a window, give your bedroom a setting that appeals you, where you sleep has a lot of impact on your personal energy, mental attitude and love life.

If your bedroom has hardwood floor, lay a plush area rug that will give you feel of warmth in a cold winter night.

Putting some extra pillows on your bed would give you inviting feel but make sure they are soft and you are not allergic to such soft material in them.

Prefer to have bedding fabrics like fleece, flannel, chenille and soft wool. You can also throw a dark colour blanket which would certainly add warmth.

Replace bulbs in your night stands to warmer light as well as replace lampshades with soothing colours like yellow.

Make bedroom surrounding full of things that you love. Display photos of your loved one the walls or dressing table.

Have some mirrors on the wall, especially if you have a small room, a large mirror would help. Keep mirrors in a position so that some light is reflecting to cause romantic atmosphere.

If you can afford, repaint the bedroom with reds and gold tones such as honey or butterscotch.

Last but not least, having couple of candles lighted at nigh would also give you warm feel.

In simple words, a duvet is a bag filled with feathers or to create a warm bed covering that takes the place of quilts and bedspreads.

Duvets with nice covers, cosy designs, patterns and fabric quality adds up to its value. Covers are useful because duvets usually cannot be washed but one can easily wash covers. Water would destroy the stuffing inside duvets so don’t try it. Duvet covers can be laundered along with the sheets and pillowcases. This keeps the duvet fresh as well. Duvets covers come with buttons, zip or tie at one end to keep the cover secure and protects stuffing to come out.

Duvet cover come in various colours and sizes and shoppers can find duvet covers in nearly any store that sells bedding, or online. A duvet fitting a queen-sized bed needs a queen-sized duvet cover. Some covers are even reversible, with coordinating patterns or colours, so the home owner can change the feel of the room without having to completely redecorate. Duvet covers are made of cotton, suede, silk, etc all depends upon how much can you afford. Normally Duvet Cover sizes are for

• Single 137cm x 200cm

• Double 200cm x 200cm

• King 230cm x 220cm

• Super King 260cm x 220cm

Sizes do vary according to the requirement of the customer. For duvets with standard knife edge, button or zipper you can go to canariatex.com to explore.
